By the time police caught up with the suspect on Centre Street, they quickly realized it wasn’t the notorious criminal, but rather a New Jersey man on vacation with his wife, and the couple hadn’t even heard of Whitey Bulger before.
Ken Howlett and his wife Lonnie, of central New Jersey, were stopped by officer Suzanne Gale, who asked the man for his identification. Several more officers arrived at the scene, but after it became clear that Howlett was indeed not Bulger, they even stopped to take pictures with the couple."
