Suspected gang member charged with extortion of elderly Garwood resident : "Authorities have arrested a suspected member of the Bloods street gang for allegedly extorting larger amounts of money from an elderly Garwood resident. Edward Schram, 33, was charged with 2nd degree extortion and drug offenses according a statement released by Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
According to an investigation launched by Special Prosecutions Unit of the Union County Prosecutor's Office and the Garwood Police Department, Schram,of Sayerville had been extorting large sums of money from the elderly victim who lives in Garwood by threatening bodily harm.
Schram, a suspected member of the Bloods street gang, repeatedly threatened the victim and collected the money 'for protection,' said Romankow.
Authorities believe the victim might have paid upwards of $50,000 to Schram over a five month period."
