Delgadillo’s wife, Alicia Mendoza Delgadillo, 20, testified Tuesday that a 15-year-old member of the Nortenos known as “K-Swiss” followed her through the apartment complex parking lot that afternoon laughing and muttering something under his breath. The petite brunette went straight home and told her husband about the perceived slight. She said Delgadillo, “never had a problem challenging anybody to a fight,” and that’s just what he did when he learned someone disrespected her.
“My husband is very protective and he would always watch my back,” Alicia Delgadillo said. The couple returned to the apartment complex later that evening, where Delgadillo and his friends confronted “K-Swiss” and other Nortenos gangsters, Alicia Delgadillo said.Thomas Griner, an attorney for Eduardo Sifuentes, said his client was punched in the face by a Surenos gang member. Gerardo Sifuentes, 23, came to his younger brother’s aid a few hours later wielding a 12-gauge shotgun. After a brief shouting match, Gerardo allegedly fired upon Delgadillo, Elijah Espinoza and Mauricio Medina in the presence of several young children and adults.Delgadillo died from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Espinoza, who was shot in the arm, and Medina, who was shot in the back, survived their injuries.Ken Croy, the defense attorney representing Gerardo Sifuentes, had only one question for Alicia Delgadillo: “Did this all really start because a 15-year-old kid was laughing at you?”
