Surging violence, rising vigilance: Redding police say 175 gang members in city limits » Redding Record Searchlight: "175 “documented gang members,” or people who have met criteria used by police to determine they are tied to a gangs, said Lt. Scott Mayberry of the Redding Police Department. He said there could be more gang members that police don’t know about.
Redding police continue to say that the gang problem in Redding is being imported by out-of-town gangs — chiefly the Norteños and Sureños — who they say are recruiting locals into their ranks. They’ve declined to say which cities the gangs are coming from.
After three gang-related shootings this month, police arrested two of four suspects, Hansen said. Still wanted are Justin Leslie Plympton, 21, and Daniel Pantoja, 18, both of Redding, in connection with a beating and subsequent drive-by shooting in the Enterprise area. Each of the men has been charged with $100,000 warrants for assault with a deadly weapon and participation in a criminal street gang. Both are believed to be outside of Redding, but Hansen declined to say where they might be."
