Friday morning shooting outside the King County Youth Services Center is linked to a gang and one of the people involved had a tattoo identifying the West Side Street Mob, a Seattle street gang, according to police. The shooter remains at large. A detailed suspect description was not available Monday.About 10:30 a.m., officers responded to the report of shots fired in the 1200 block of East Alder Street. The 21-year-old man shot was lying on the ground surrounded by a crowd of people, but was conscious and responsive, according to police.Witnesses told police a four-door sedan, possibly a 2004 Chevy Impala, was driving northbound on 12th Avenue and stopped in front of the parking lot entrance to the Youth Service Center.A young man got out of the back passenger side and made a derogatory phrase before shooting. Police contacted three witnesses and learned five or six shots were aimed at a group of people. The car fled north on 12th Avenue and eastbound on East Jefferson Street. A red bandanna was also left at the scene. The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where his injuries were not considered life-threatening."It's getting terrible around here," neighbor Thomas McCray told seattlepi.com Friday. "I've been here almost 30 years, and I haven't seen anything like this."
In what appears to be an unrelated case, federal prosecutors charged Brandon R. Shell earlier this year with gun possession and drug dealing after police linked him to a 2008 shooting in the 1900 block of East Pine Street. Gang detectives say Shell, 27, is an active member of the West Side Street Mob.
Police also said this week it's believed a West Side Street Mob member is responsible for a June robbery on Delridge Way Southwest. That suspect, 17, was booked into the Youth Service Center that month for investigation of another robbery, investigation of drug possessions and weapons offense.
