Valentin Garay was a 17-year old member of the Surenos gang when he shot rival gang member Eddie Lemus in October of 2007.Lemus lived, so Garay was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. But the charge was enhanced to a first degree felony due to Garay's ties with the Surenos.Facing 5-99 years or life behind bars, Garay struck a deal with prosecutors.According to the District Attorney's office, this is the second case stemming from six gang-related shootings that took place during a 30-day period in 2007. The other four have yet to go to trial.
