Officials say the shooting stemmed from a feud between two rival families. It drew international attention to the 'ndrangheta, a crime syndicate based in the southern Italian region of Calabria.
Giovanni Strangio followed the opening of his trial Wednesday in the Calabrian town of Locri via video hookup from a prison in Rome. The 31-year-old Strangio was arrested last year in Amsterdam.
He is on trial for multiple homicide."
