A judge in San Antonio on Thursday sentenced 27-year-old Juan "Joker" Gomez after he pleaded guilty to two counts of murder.
The San Antonio Express-News reports Gomez admitted to solicitation of murder for allegedly targeting his former lawyer and a witness while in jail. The charge was then dropped, but considered toward his murder sentence. He must serve 60 years before being considered for parole.
The defense says Gomez thought he was being targeted for a drug gang hit.
Prosecutors say Steven Bustamante and Juan Marcelo Alvarez had nothing to do with gangs and were shot after Gomez called them to the business.
A co-defendant still faces a capital murder charge.
